看到 Bret Victor 書架上有 Jeremy Campbell 八〇年代講資訊理論的《Grammatical Man》，翻過前三章。利用統計數值——也就是時間行進下經驗重疊出的不可解結果，來速成文本的想法（p. 28）靈驗到成爲如今日常。嘆惋自己受到的基礎教育根植於牛頓力學的決定論，而輕夷統計（數字作假是其中些細原因）實在中毒太深。

就像書裏提到（p. 51），二十世紀文化論者無論有冇意識都似在論述熱力學第二定律普遍存在。第三章快到尾引用偵探小說家桃樂妃・Ｌ・西耶絲的《Have His Carcase》（三二）：

[…] by the second law of thermo-dynamics, […] we are hourly and momently progressing to a state of more and more randomness, we receive positive assurance that we are moving happily and securely in the right direction.

另外像是流行文化不絕的獃板與未料的危懼（unremitting banality and inconceivable terror，宋塔 The Imagination of Disaster，六五）；廣島原爆製造空間的均質，消滅生命體和箇中秩序，「同等強度的光」「劇烈到無法覺知、隱身的同質無」（Julia Kristeva 談莒哈絲，八七）。透過新聞報導使原爆後的塗炭在記憶裏凝固成單調印象。也就是日文裏頭的「儚い」、泥濘昏昧、無常、空（vain）的概念。
